Dr. Barnes is a cardiologist and vascular medicine specialist at the University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center, and currently co-directs the Michigan Anticoagulation Quality Improvement Initiative. His research and clinical areas of expertise include anticoagulation management as well as treatment of venous thromboembolism. He served as Vice Chair of the 2026 AHA/ACC Acute PE Guidelines.
