Vascular Surgery
Dr. Juan Carlos Jimenez is an academic vascular surgeon and educator at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He serves as Medical Director of the UCLA Gonda (Goldschmied) Venous Center and Ambulatory Procedure Units and holds the role of Vice Chair for Inclusive Excellence in the Department of Surgery. In addition, he serves as Assistant Dean for Faculty Initiatives at the David Geffen School of Medicine, where he works to advance faculty development, mentorship, and inclusive excellence across the institution. His leadership integrates clinical care, education, and organizational strategy to strengthen academic surgery and improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Jimenez specializes in the treatment of complex venous disease, including venous insufficiency, deep venous obstruction, and venous ulceration. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in both open and endovascular techniques and has played a key role in advancing minimally invasive therapies for venous disease. His clinical work emphasizes comprehensive, patient-centered care and the integration of advanced diagnostic imaging with state-of-the-art interventional treatments.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Jimenez is deeply involved in the training of medical students, residents, and fellows. He is a long-standing faculty member for national vascular surgery board review programs and serves as Co-Chair of the Moore–Society for Vascular Surgery Board Review Course, one of the most widely recognized educational programs for vascular surgery trainees preparing for board certification. He is known for his engaging teaching style and commitment to mentorship, helping to prepare the next generation of vascular specialists.
Dr. Jimenez is actively involved in national professional societies and contributes to advancing the field through leadership, scholarship, and service. He has held multiple leadership roles within the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Venous Forum and has served on committees focused on clinical guidelines, education, and professional development. He is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders, where he contributes to advancing scholarship and dialogue related to vascular disease and healthcare equity.
His academic interests include venous disease management, vascular imaging, surgical education, and strategies to strengthen inclusive excellence within academic medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and invited presentations addressing these topics. Through his scholarship and leadership, he seeks to promote high-quality vascular care, foster collaboration within the surgical community, and create supportive environments where physicians and trainees can thrive.
Dr. Jimenez received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. He completed his general surgery residency at UC Irvine and his vascular surgery fellowship at UCLA. He also earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, reflecting his commitment to healthcare leadership and innovation.
Through his work as a clinician, educator, and leader, Dr. Jimenez continues to advance the field of vascular surgery while promoting excellence in patient care, professional development, and academic medicine.
